The Arts Throughout the Schools
The schools throughout the district have been conducting magical concerts with opportunities for gifted vocalists and musicians to perform solo pieces. Additionally, our fine arts programs have been beautifying the school hallways with artwork by our talented students. Curriculum and Instruction Update - Presentation

New Math Website for Teachers, Students and Parents
Stanford University's Graduate School of Education has developed a new mathematics website for students, teachers and parents. The website includes math apps, videos, games, lesson plans, free on-line courses for students, etc. Click on the link https://www.youcubed.org to access the website.
Information Sessions on PARCC for Parents of English Language Learners
Information Sessions on PARCC for Parents of IEP/ELL Students – Please click on this link to view a flyer which has the time and dates for the regional PARCC information sessions that the New Jersey Department of Education’s Offices of Special Education Programs, Supplemental Educational Programs, and Assessment are hosting on March 3, 7 and 10. The sessions are specially designed for parents of students with IEPs and students who are English language learners. The flyer is also available in Spanish.
ACCESS 2.0 (WIDA) Assessment for English Language Learners - March 1 -11, 2016
Between March 1-11, 2016 students enrolled in the English as a Second Language
(ELL) program in the Glen Rock School District will be taking the ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 assessment
required by the State of New Jersey, Department of Education. This is a standardized test which measures proficiency in English. The results of this test will be used to determine growth and continued eligibility in the program. This year, the format of the test has been changed, and it will be given on-line with the exception of kindergarten. Literacy Leaders Meeting - February 8th
The Glen Rock Office of Curriculum and Instruction will host the next meeting with Dr. Gravity Goldberg for local district literacy leaders on February 8th from 9:15- 10:30 at the Glen Rock Library (lower level meeting room).
College and Career Readiness Presentation to the Board of Education and Community

District In-Service Day - January 18th
Educators and staff will be engaged in professional development activities on January 18th. The district schedule of morning activities can be found in the below 'Useful Information' section in the Professional Development file. During the afternoon, the Glen Rock Education Association will provide another professional development program for its members.
Glen Rock District report on testing SY 2014-15
At the Dec. 21 Glen Rock Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Dr. Paula Valenti, Director of Student Personnel Services Lawrence Wolff and Director of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Kathleen Regan presented a report on the district's testing performance on PARCC, SAT and ACT for the 2014-15 school year.

National Computer Science Week
The National Computer Science Education Week is scheduled during the week of December 7-13th. Activities to promote computer science and coding, especially during mathematics classes, are planned throughout the month. NJDOE Announces New Website for Parents on PARCC
The NJDOE recently announced the development of a new website designed to help parents and guardians to better understand the PARCC. The website, Be A Learning Hero, provides video clips on how parents can interpret Individual Student Report (ISR) for their child. ISRs are expected to be released within the next several weeks. The website also provides resources for parents to support their child's learning and academic performance. The website can be found at: www.bealearninghero.org
The NJDOE recently launched another new website to help parents understand the results of their child's PARCC results. That website is www.understandthescore.org

Staying Safe In Cyberspace - A Workshop for Parents by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office
The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Computer Crimes Unit will be presenting an in-depth presentation on Internet Safety on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 7PM at the Benjamin Franklin Middle School, 335 North Van Dien Ave. in Ridgewood. Parent Input on Language Arts Literacy
The Office of Curriculum and Instruction is in the process of evaluating the K-12 English/Language Arts Literacy Programs. In addition to analyzing the existing curriculum and resources against new standards, student needs, and student interests, teams of teachers developed surveys during the summer to seek parent input on the K-12 English/Language Arts Literacy Programs. Parents and guardians are requested to complete surveys for the level/s in which their child/children participate by clicking on the below appropriate grade level link . The surveys will be posted through October 16th. Your interest in the program and input are truly appreciated!

2015-16 Summer Curriculum Projects
Almost ninety teachers and specialists throughout the district participated in summer curriculum development projects for Language Arts Literacy, Full Day Kindergarten, Science, Gifted and Talented/Enrichment Education, Mathematics, Fine and Performing Arts, Business Education, World Language, Technology, Health/Physical Education, Basic Skills, Counseling, English as a Second Language, and Social Studies. Additionally, teachers and administrators worked to improve our mentoring, curriculum mapping, and new teacher orientation programs. A PowerPoint presentation on these accomplishments can be found in the 'Useful Information and Documents' section of this website.
K-5 Curriculum Expectations Brochures
During the summer, teams of teachers worked together to develop informational brochures for parents regarding the curriculum expectations for each grade level. The brochures reflect the essential skills students will learn by the end of the school year based on the district curriculum and grade level benchmarks. The brochures can be found in the below Useful Information and Documents section of this website in a file entitled Curriculum Expectations Brochures.
The Office of Curriculum and Instruction will be in full operation between 9 AM-4 PM during the summer as teachers participate in curriculum writing workshops and new faculty orientation in preparation for the new school year. We wish the Glen Rock Community a happy and safe summer!
New Teacher Orientation Scheduled for August 25-27, 2015
The Glen Rock School District Board of Education and Administration welcomed new teachers and specialists during its annual New Teacher Orientation Program. The schedule of activities for the three day orientation and pertinent documents are available in the below New Teacher and Mentoring Resources file. The orientation is scheduled in the Glen Rock High School Media Center. A slide show can be found below.

The Glen Rock Professional Development Academy offers a variety of instructional technology and curriculum related course offerings, including opportunities for horizontal and vertical articulation.
